The Women's Commission's Megan McKenna meets with Darfur refugees in a camp in Chad
Photo: Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children

From Megan McKenna, senior media and communications coordinator for the IRC's affiliate Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children:

The Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children visits refugee camps worldwide to gather information about the situation of refugee women and children in the camps: what services they are or are not receiving, what challenges they face and to find out how to help ensure their participation in decision-making in the camp. The Commission then advocates on their behalf on Capitol Hill, at the UN and among donor governments. In this photo, I am in in Treiguine refugee camp in eastern Chad, talking to a group of refugee women and girls who fled Darfur. They are telling me about how they have not yet been registered and are receiving little to no assistance.
