Women who were forced from their homes by the ongoing Darfur conflict take part in an IRC literacy course in a camp for displaced persons in west Darfur

From an IRC colleague based in Khartoum, Sudan:

"Many women living in camps for families displaced by violence in Darfur recognize the importance of literacy and have enrolled in IRC literacy training courses like the one in this photo. These courses provide new skills the women can take with them back to their homes but also provide a newfound sense of confidence and dignity for the participants--who can now support their children in their own studies. The courses also help break up the monotony of their day and create a community where they can connect with fellow camp residents."
