Liberia - Empowering Women

This year, the International Rescue Committee will be working in partnership with Jane Magazine to highlight our gender based violence (GBV) prevention programs to their readers and show them what crimes happen to women around the world. In this month’s Jane (March 2007), you can read about my trip to Liberia with their editor-in-chief, Brandon Holley.

Last December, Brandon and I traveled around Liberia visiting our GBV programs in Monrovia as well as in Ganta and Saclepea (along the Guinea border); together, we met countless inspirational women like Annie, already a mother of two at age 21 who had dreams of being able to go back to school, and Musu, a Liberian-born IRC social worker who cooked us a dinner of traditional potato greens at her home. You can see a few of the photos I took while traveling with Brandon in Liberia here. Please also pick up the March issue of Jane to read more and check out www.janemag.com/yournews.
